Zine

November 28th, 2025

Zine day was super fun! I brought a bunch of juice boxes, and I ate a bunch of cupcakes. It was so impressive to see what people put together in less than a week, especially the last week of classes. It felt bittersweet, though — I’m grateful I made meaningful connections, which made it hard to say goodbye. This class challenged me a lot. I made art in so many different ways I’d never explored before; my peers constantly inspired me, and they pushed me to try my hardest on each assignment. Ultimately, I am proud of the work I’ve created.

My favourite zines were:

  • Anne’s “I’m not like other girls.”
  • Abby’s “Crush”
  • Ella’s “You were always my first friend.”

“Expressing my Queerness Through my Hair”

My zine explores how I expressed my queerness through my hair, using each colour, cut, and style as a bookmark for different stages of my life. Throughout my teens, I went through countless identities, and my hair became the way I could honestly express who I was becoming. In the end, my zine reflects the pressure society puts on people to label themselves, and it shows that everyone deserves the freedom to explore and express themselves without judgment or fear. I hope that, through my zine, people can relate to or learn that exploring yourself isn’t a straight line.
