1 Feat, 3 Ways- Bananas Are Berries
By Alaina Coles, Becca Venter, and Leah Tipping
We chose to film ourselves eating a banana because we knew there were many creative ways to approach it. Our goal was to keep things lighthearted and fun rather than serious.
To begin, we made a broad list of different ways to eat a banana. Instead of assigning each action to a specific video, we decided to shoot various clips, each about one minute long, and then see which ones worked best. We filmed ourselves eating a banana in several different ways: normally, with utensils, with the peel still on, and by mashing it up first, among others. Most of the filming was completed in one session, not including any reshoots.
I was in charge of the animation, so I started by importing the clips into Premiere Pro for editing and frame extraction. After that, I used Ibis Paint to draw over each frame. Once I finished the drawings, all I had to do was save them as a video.
We chose the name last. It was chosen because of an interesting fact I knew about bananas. We decided on this name because we felt it fit the unexpected actions in the video.
We envision this project being displayed in a gallery as some sort of projection or video piece, but we’re still deciding which video would work best for the installation.
