Pauline Oliveros Video

Thinking about my experiences with listening, I realized that I often tune in and out, missing parts of conversations while my mind races.
In the video, Oliveros talks about really connecting with sound, making it clear that listening is more than just hearing. It’s about engaging with the world around us. This really hits home for me because I’ve often treated listening as something passive, focusing just on the words and ignoring things like tone and rhythm.
Since I started practicing deep listening, I have noticed a change in my interactions. I find myself picking up on subtle emotions and movements that make conversations feel more meaningful. I love how Oliveros makes listening feel playful. Instead of just reacting, I enjoy the engagement with everyday sounds, like the hum of the refrigerator or the rustling leaves.
At its core, her approach encourages us to fully engage with our surroundings and with each other, leading to deeper connections, clearer communication, and more creativity through a mindful approach to sound.
