AUDIO ASSIGNMENT: Pond Song

For my audio art I wanted to focus on the “translation” approach – recreating the experience of visiting my backyard pond. The pond is a beautiful and serene place to go that lets you be with your thoughts.

I live in the outskirts of Fergus with farm land all around me, at the back of the property theres about an acre worth of water. Thats our pond. Winter has the sparkling snow dusting the top of the frozen water, and if you look close enough theres tiny bird tracks. In Fall theres whistling wind, crunchy leaves, and the birds singing about how its starting to get cold. The pond is balanced and it passes on that feeling to whoever listens.

My dad and I both like listening to the birds – he has this device hanging from a maple tree that captures the different species that come to visit the pond. For my project I used about 25 species.
