1 Kilometre
All throughout my childhood I was a dancer, I did every kind of dance; lyrical, jazz, hiphop, tap, I even did Irish dancing a bit. But one that I never did was ballet. So for this assignment I decided to perform a kilometres worth of my steps in ballet form. I wanted to express the commitment I was always too afraid to put myself into, through the commitment of repeating the basic steps in the form of a kilometre walk.
I started by finding out how many feet are in a kilometre, which turned out to be 3280, I then estimated that with my height at 5 ‘3, my stride would be about two feet, therefore it would take me approximately 1640 steps to walk one kilometre. In ballet there are six main foot positions, so I would have to do each position 273 times.

I took a time-lapse video of myself, and compiled what was roughly 20-25 minutes into a 20 second video. If I was to simply walk the kilometre, I would have been able to let my mind wander, which often tend to lead to myself overthinking, and stressing myself out. However, performing my steps instead made me keep my focus on counting, positioning, and accuracy, while it didn’t exactly relax me, it allowed my mind to focus on something repetitive and not stressful.
