Marina Abramovic Documentary

I feel like Marina’s work is very intense, in a good way. I really liked her project “the artist is present” because it shows how human connection can be achieved without words. Something that may be problematic is the amount of nudity she used in her work. Many may not approve of full body nudity even in an art sense.

Some of the most important features I got from the documentary about performance art are real experiences, physical endurance, vulnerability, audience interaction, and unpredictability. Marina’s quote, “When you perform it is a knife and your blood, when you act it is a fake knife and ketchup,” shows the difference between performance art and acting. In acting, an actor pretends to experience something, while in performance art, the artist actually experiences it. In her project Rhythm 0, She allowed the audience to do whatever they wanted to her. This shows the dedication she has to being an artist and the lengths she’s willing to go to with performance.
