“1 km in the mind”
For the 1 km project, we were asked to create a kilometre in any media and prove how it is equal to one kilometre. My immediate thought was to go for a 1 km walk, so I headed to the corner right by the AGG (Art Gallery of Guelph) to start my walk and ended up at my house to end the walk.

I took a video of my walk, which ended up being eleven minutes and thirty seconds. I was originally just gonna leave this project at that and make the video about the sound on the walk. I felt as though I wasn’t proud of this work, especially on critique day.

This made me think what else i could do. My mind then went to mental health and how for me some days are so easy to get up and walk out the door but other days I barley even feel like moving, with little to no motivation.
for the video below i Had a 11 minute and 30 second timer and to create the whole video, including the editing.
In the video which I named “1 km in the mind” its supposed to speak about the struggles of mental health. 1 km in the head can look like no movement physically but yet a million thoughts a second it can look like staring at the celling or looking at the door knowing its not far away yet you feel like you cant move. I thought the comparison of the videos really helps to show how 11 minutes and 30 seconds can look like from two different perspectives, weather its 1 km walk or 1 km battle in the mind. Or even how mental health can really come in eposides where one day you feel on top of the world and next day your overwhelmed by feeling like you have to carry the weight of the world. For me sometimes that sounds like, “you have to be a good student”, “why arent you being a good daughter?” “you’re not being a good christian”, “You’re falling behind in school”.
I think this could be shown in a gallery by having both the videos playing beside each other. The shorter minute-long video would play through as many times as it would take the 11-minute 30-second video to go through once. I think this would enforce how one km could be shown in two different ways, one more physical and the other more mental.
