Assignment One (1 KM)
Brainstorming Ideas

I used gloves to pick up the trash as I don’t where this trash is coming from or who it is coming from to avoid all possible risk it is important to use gloves to pick up the litter.

I used the knapsack as a way to hold the trash bag as it was easier to hold on my back. This was especially important on the way back as I became tired of picking up the trash.

The garbage bag is pretty self explanatory. The garbage bag was to showcase how much litter accumulates in one kilometre and is the correct place to store the litter so it just made sense.
The plan was to go down the main street near my house (a kilometre down) to gather as much trash as possible to show how much trash is in a kilometre. I actually expected it to be more but I assume that the wind takes it away so we wouldn’t be able to see most trash as it probably stored in a dirt divot that just ends up collecting all of it unfortunately. I made this piece because I am really tired of seeing garbage thrown everywhere and people leaving garbage on benches or just around it disgusts me. I self proclaim myself as an environmentalist but really I just don’t want to see a world where garbage covers most of it. The main motivation to the piece is that I wanted people to understand how much trash is out there because I feel we can forget sometimes with our lives being so busy.

Title: Kilometre of Trash
Artist Name: David Piombini

This work is not meant to be pretty. This work is a critique of how much litter is scattered in this world hence why it is at eye level with a 1 km cutout on the bag. I want this work to be in your face to be seen as the litter that is around is hidden out of your face so you don’t have to deal with it. Wrong it is still important to be aware of these things otherwise our world will become the land fill. The 1 km of trash that was collected in a black trash bag along side a roadway near my house. This bag of litter is hung in my garage with a bungee cord at eye level which is the exactly way I would hang it in a gallery but to add onto this I would gather more bags and hang them in a medium sized room very close together but barely not touching them. This is in order to further push my meaning that we must face this issue head on and not ignore it before its to late. This work is for prevention its to prevent the world from becoming a world where life is barely livable.
